Port of Limassol in Cyprus is going to be modernized under the Sea Traffic Management in the Eastern Mediterranean (STEAM) project. In fact, STEAM goals to advance and further develop the port, so as to become a worldclass terminal equipped with modern and digital technologies.
Collaborators will tend their focus on high quality data, new decision-support tools and real-time information for the ports of Cyprus, and especially for the Port of Limassol.
New technological solutions will be selected for providing real-time information related to ship movements, the environment, and the tracking of cargo.

For the records, STEAM is a three-year initiative which started back in January 2019 and is scheduled to be completed until 2021.
With a budget approximately 1 million euro, the project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Research Promotion Foundation.
Systems will be designed and developed for collecting Automatic Identification System (AIS) data from the Eastern Mediterranean sea while collecting environmental monitoring data related to various oceanographic and meteorological parameters of interest and tracking cargo inside the port by interfacing with existing systems for extracting this information.

Concluding, the Cyprus University of Technology, Research Institutes of Sweden, Cyprus Port Authority, Cyprus Shipping Association, Tototheo Trading, A.T. DeLevant Business Solutions and Cyprus Subsea Consulting and Services have joined their forces to establish the project.
