At Klaipėda LNG terminal, operated by KN Energies, a record-breaking 105 thousand cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was transferred from the FSRU Independence to the Amur River LNG vessel.
This marks the largest-ever reload of LNG from the FSRU Independence to a conventionally sized vessel since the terminal’s inception, surpassing previous transshipment volumes that were limited to small-scale LNG carriers. The Amur River, with a length of 288 meters and ice class 1A FS, is well-suited for operations under low temperatures and ice conditions.
The LNG vessel will carry LNG loaded in Klaipėda for Equinor to the Inkoo LNG terminal in Finland. Finland, facing a disruption in natural gas supply due to the closure of the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia, relies on LNG imports.
The Inkoo floating storage regasification unit Exemplar receives the LNG by sea, and the gas is then transported by pipeline from the LNG storage vessel to the shore.
Mindaugas Navikas, Chief Commercial Officer of KN Energies, highlighted the significance of the transshipment, emphasizing the Klaipėda LNG terminal’s role not only in supplying natural gas to Lithuania but also ensuring gas supplies to other countries.
