The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) announced on 9 May a 12% increase in employment contracts for Panamanian seafarers during the first four months of 2025.
At the close of the Seafarer Recruitment Committee’s seventeenth meeting, Felipe Arias, Acting Director of the General Directorate of Seafarers (DGGM), reaffirmed AMP’s commitment to creating opportunities in the maritime, logistics and port sectors, describing it as a “state vision” driven by collaborative efforts.
Mayte Burgos, Head of the Maritime Labor Affairs Department (DALM), presented encouraging figures, with 307 contracts registered between January and April 2025, an increase of 12.04% compared to 2024 (274 contracts), and a 21.34% increase compared to 2023 (253 contracts).
As stated, this growth is partly due to bilateral agreements with other maritime administrations and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed with leading shipping companies.
The partnerships also aim to not only expand employment opportunities, but to support the welfare of Panamanian seafarers in national ports too.
