The ship lost a total of 1,816 containers overboard during severe inclement weather on 30 November in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,600 nautical miles northwest of Hawaii, while en route from Yantian, China to Long Beach, California. Thousands more collapsed throughout the deck.
The discharging operations, inspection work and transloading of the discharged damaged containers continue to proceed steadily in Kobe, Japan, with a total of 859 boxes safely discharged as of February 17, 2021, ONE said.
Shipping claims consultancy WK Webster, which is involved in the case, has estimated that cargo losses from ONE Apus, on the basis of average containerized cargo values, may reach USD200 million or more.
