An oil spill has occurred from the container ship Maersk Gateshead on January 6, in Hong Kong, at Kwai Tsing Container Terminal, where the ship was docked. Clean up operations have started but the exact amount of the oil spill is not known.
The oil spill took place as Maersk Gateshead was conducting bunkering operations while at berth at Modern Terminal Limited in Hong Kong.
Because of the leakage, bunkering operations were stopped to prevent further spill.
After that, clean-up operations begun, which lasted all day, on vessel deck, hull and sea surface.
As of now, the container ship has stopped all cargo operations and is waiting for instructions. It is not known yet what the exact causes of the accident are or who is to blame.
