The initial pair of LNG-powered, wind-assisted vessels for the Northern Lights initiative, a collaboration involving Shell, Equinor, and TotalEnergies, have been inaugurated in China.
The construction of these unique vessels commenced in November 2022 at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. (DSIC) in China. By early 2024, the first two ships were equipped with specially designed 7,500 cubic meters cargo tanks tailored for transporting liquefied CO2.
Our two first ships have officially been launched and successfully transferred from the drydock to the harbour. Thank you to everyone involved. We look forward to welcoming the ships to Norway later this year.
..the Northern Lights JV posted on LinkedIn.
According to news, the company will receive a total of four ships, establishing it as the owner of the largest specialized CO2 shipping fleet globally.
Earlier this year, Northern Lights JV DA and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K LINE) signed Bare Boat Charter and Time Charter contracts for the management of the third CO2 ship.
