On 23 January, MPC Container Ships received its first methanol dual-fueled newbuilding container vessel from Sanfu Shipbuilding.
According to the company, the newest vessel, NCL Vestland, is set to embark on a 15-year charter to North Sea Container Line. As the container vessel is able to burn green methanol as well as conventional fuel, MPC Container Ships claims that it can reduce carbon emissions by up to 95%.
It is a huge leap towards a sustainable future, and we look forward to welcoming her in Europe for an official name giving ceremony soon. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the yard, the crew onboard and all our partners who made this project possible.

Multiple methanol dual-fuel vessel deliveries and orders have been taking place since the start of the year. For instance, Japan Marine United (JMU) announced the delivery of the methanol-ready 12,800 TEU container ship MAERSK EUNAPOLIS on January 17, 2025. Additionally, Wärtsilä has received an order to supply a complete propulsion package for a 38,000 DWT methanol-ready cement carrier vessel.
