The Indian Navy successfully rescued 23 Pakistani sailors along with their Iranian fishing vessel from a pirate attack in the Arabian Sea.
As explained, the anti-piracy mission lasted for more than 12 hours and achieved success.
The Indian Navy issued a statement stating that they were alerted to a piracy incident involving the fishing vessel Al-Kambar 786 on the evening of March 28, 2024. Subsequently, two naval ships engaged in maritime security operations in the Arabian Sea were redirected to assist the hijacked fishing vessel.
Furthermore, the Indian Navy stated that on March 29, INS Sumedha intercepted the distressed fishing vessel following its distress call. Later, INS Trishul, a guided missile frigate, joined Sumedha in the operation.
The Fishing Vessel was approximately 90 nautical miles southwest of Socotra Island, which is situated in the Indian Ocean within Yemeni territory, when it was targeted by nine armed pirates.
At the beginning of this month, the Indian Navy conducted another operation. A wounded crew member was successfully evacuated by the Indian Navy from the MV Ruen, a vessel flying the flag of Malta. The Bulk Carrier belonged to Navigation Maritime Bulgare, a business based in Bulgaria close to the Yemeni island of Socotra, and was taken over by unknown assailants on December 14.
