Marine Department of the Hong Kong issued a notice regarding the Merchant Shipping Prevention of Air Pollution Regulation 2021.
The amendments, that will come into effect on 1 April 2022, impose new requirements in relation to the use of fuel oil for ships of 400 gross tonnage or above, whether engaged in international or non-international voyages.
As explained, the Amendment Regulation requires that the in-use fuel oil sampling point shall comply with the requirements set out in MARPOL Annex VI.
Therefore, masters, coxswains, and owners/operators of ships are required to observe and comply with the Amendment Regulation.
