North P&I Club alerts of the situation in Haiti following the continuous riots and civil disorders that affect the ports’ operations and cause disruptions. The Club advises all shipowners to follow up the updates in order to know how to proceed with their operations.
In August, the situation in Haiti was the same, as the areas outside the port of Port-Au-Prince and throughout the city were critical and unsafe for vessels, while shore passes were not being issued in order for inspectors to access the port.
Vessel operators should contact ship’s agents or local P&I correspondents for the most up-to-date information on the ports in the country.
Although, for the time being the ports in the area remain open and operating, they are not running on full capacity, whereas the delays are a common challenge.
Due to the current situation local correspondents do not recommend conducting crew changes or granting shore leave until further notice.
