A woman died in an attempt to rescue the crew of a sinking fishing vessel, following collision with a cargo vessel in Hong Kong waters on Saturday.
The collision occurred at sea about 60 miles southeast of Hong Kong on Saturday night, which made the fishing boat to sink, according to Hong Kong Government Flying Service (GFS). Vessels sailing nearby recovered six people from the water, but seven people remained missing. One woman from the Good Samaritan vessels, not involved in the collision, jumped into the water, but she died trying to rescue the crew.
The GFS sent a Super Puma helicopter and Challenger 605 aircraft for a search and rescue effort. The woman was airlifted to North Lantau Hospital, but she was declared dead before the arrival.
Seven more people are still missing as from Sunday, as a result from the accident, but the GFS has suspended the search.
Another fatal accident occurred less than a day earlier in Hong Kong waters, when a sailboat competing in the Volvo Ocean Race collided with a fishing vessel killing a fisherman onboard.
