Two more crew members were discovered dead on the oil vessel that recently exploded and sunk, as the management of Shebah Exploration and Production Company (SEPCOL) informed.
The vessel exploded on 2 February and remained ablaze for over a day. At the time, it had 10 crew members, with SEPCOL reporting that three dead individuals were found during the weekend after three were found to be alive.
What is more, there are claims that the vessel was ill-maintained and old. Earlier in February, government regulators visited the wreck and Sepcol met them once again on February 8.
The company noted that it would be cleaning up the area to minimize damages to the environment, while also seeking to find out the cause behind the explosion.
The environment minister of Nigeria declared that the vessel was storing around 50,000-60,000 barrels of crude below its capacity of two million barrels.
