According to reports from Chinese state media, a barge collision with a bridge in the Pearl River Delta near Guangzhou resulted in the death of five individuals. The impact caused a section of the bridge to break off, leading to vehicles falling into the water, Reuters highlights.
In particular, the Guangzhou Maritime Safety Administration stated that the barge, en route from Foshan city to a southern district of Guangzhou, collided with the bridge on the Hongqili Waterway.
CCTV reported that as a result of the collision, four vehicles and an electric motorbike fell from the bridge. Among them, a bus with only the driver on board and another vehicle submerged in the water, while three other vehicles landed on the barge.
CCTV said that the accident resulted in five deaths (one bus driver, one motorcycle driver and three people in a van) and two people were treated in the hospital.
Local media and officials stated at a press briefing that over 100 emergency personnel, including six divers, along with approximately 15 boats and salvage vessels, were engaged in the rescue efforts.
