Seatrium has successfully delivered Nexus Victoria, the first Japanese vessel to be equipped with a commercially installed carbon capture system.
According to Seatrium, the retrofit involved extensive planning, design, engineering, and system upgrades, including enhancements to electrical and automation systems to integrate the CO₂ capture system.
We thank Mitsui OSK Lines for entrusting Seatrium with this milestone project and for taking our long-term partnership to a new level of collaboration in support of our collective energy transition goals.

This achievement aligns with broader efforts in Japan to accelerate carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiatives. In late 2024, several organizations partnered with the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) to work on a carbon capture and storage project. The Project aims to conduct engineering design work for the CCS value chain and exploratory drilling at the planned CO₂ storage site, as part of Japan’s advanced CCS initiatives targeting the start of CO₂ storage by FY2030.
