A fire broke out on the container vessel APL Vancouver, in one of its cargo holds, on January 31. At that time, the vessel was on passage from Shekou to Singapore. Emergency response procedures were activated, while local authorities coordinate all necessary actions to ensure the fire is extinguished. However, there are reports that fire is still ongoing, with all the crewmembers being safe.
Namely, the Vietnamese Coast Guard responded to a cargo fire on the container ship APL Vancouver off Vung Ro, Vietnam.
The fire started in one of the ship’s cargo bays, with video from the scene showing that the fire is located on a container stack just forward of the accommodations block.
After the fire, a Vietnamese Coast Guard vessel arrived at the APL Vancouver’s position, in order to help the container ship’s crew on their firefighting efforts. Commercial salvors also responded and headed to the site.
All 24 crewmembers are safe and no pollution has been reported.
