Kawa Shipping has placed an order for three 4,800 TEU dual-fuel LNG container ships with Wuhu Shipyard, with an option for a fourth vessel.
According to shipbuilding sources, each ship is priced at approximately USD 60 million, bringing the total potential deal value to USD 240 million. The first three ships are scheduled for delivery between May and September 2027.
This marks Kawa Shipping’s first newbuild order, reflecting its rapid expansion in the global shipping market since its incorporation in Hong Kong in 2023.
Generally, container ships have been gaining notable popularity in the shipbuilding orderbook. According to BIMCO, liner operators now control 79% of the order book capacity. While their share of the fleet capacity is lower, it is expected to continue growing in the coming years.
