On the occasion of IMO’s negotiations on a CO2- neutral strategy, the Danish Shipping, along with a broad range of countries, submitted a scientific study to IMO as a concrete input to the climate debate. The study was commissioned by Danish Operators, and it shows how the shipping industry can best be CO2-free.
On 26 June, IMO’s 172 member countries are going to sit to the negotiating table, along with a wide range of economic and social organizations. The aim is to agree on a global strategy on ship CO2 reductions. Negotiations should go quickly, because already in spring 2018, IMO adopted a preliminary climate strategy.
The study is expected to help to form the basis for negotiations and to show the concrete possibilities, that shipping has to deliver to the Paris agreement’s objective of keeping global temperature increase below 2 degrees.
“We have for many years focused with the reduction of shipping CO 2 emissions…We hope that our study can contribute to advance negotiations on an international climate strategy for shipping in an ambitious direction, “says Maria Bruun Skipper, vice president of Danish Operators.
