On 18 February Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry delivered a 16,180 teu methanol dual fuel container ship to Cosco Shipping.
As announced, the Cosco Shipping Yangpu, built at Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry’s Yangzhou yard, is the first of its kind to be constructed in China. Measuring 366 meters in length and 51 meters in width, the vessel has a maximum capacity of 16,180 TEU and meets the EEDI III energy efficiency standards, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 8.9%.
In addition, the vessel features the world’s first domestic WinGD methanol dual-fuel main engine and generator, as well as the first-ever Alfa Laval methanol dual-fuel boiler. It also feautures a methanol fuel barge and supply system, alongside an exceptionally large methanol storage tank, allowing it to complete a single voyage from the Far East to West America on methanol fuel.
Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry noted that this new vessel series will enhance operational efficiency and offer innovative solutions to optimize Cosco’s global shipping network. The company is focusing on both building new, eco-friendly ships and modernizing its existing fleet to accelerate its transition to a green, low-carbon future.
