The Unified Command, comprising the Coast Guard, Spectrum OpCo, LLC, and the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office (LOSCO), continues to respond to an ongoing oil and natural gas release in Louisiana.
The incident was first reported to the Coast Guard on April 26, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m. Response efforts have scaled up significantly, with more than 150 personnel currently involved. Equipment deployed includes up to 6 MARCO skimmers, 4 drum skimmers, various recovery storage units, and extensive boom deployment totaling over 7,800 feet of 18” containment boom, with more on the way.
To protect nearby islands, responders have laid out hundreds of absorbent boom bales. Oil Spill Removal Organizations have recovered approximately 9,492 gallons of oily liquids so far.
Aerial drone and helicopter surveys are ongoing, and air quality monitoring has not identified any immediate hazards. A two-mile, low-altitude flight restriction remains in place around the site.
The exact volume of the release and flow rate remain unknown, but a well control contractor is on-scene working to stop the discharge. The Unified Command is continuing efforts to limit environmental damage and safeguard public health as operations progress.
There have been no reports or observations of impacted wildlife. Mariners are encouraged to report any observations of oil to the National Response Center at 800-424-8802 and any observation of impacted wildlife to Wildlife Hotline Phone Number at 832-514-9663.
