According to NorthStandard, Adani Ports and Logistics has issued a new standard operating procedure (SOP) aimed at strengthening safety measures for vessels calling at Krishnapatnam Port.
This comprehensive SOP mandates specific protocols for gas detection, hold marking, and safe entry into cargo holds to ensure the protection of both onboard crew and shore personnel.
To all the vessel and Master calling to Krishnapatnam Port in view of strengthening the safety procedure onboard the vessel following SOP has to be strictly complied with:
- Vessel shall have certified multi gas detector onboard to measure O2, CO, LEL & H2S and other Toxic gases.
- Valid shore calibration certificate to present for the gas monitor and detectors and ships staff trained to use it.
- All booby hatches Fwd. & Aft to be marked by their hold numbers clearly.
- The No / Nil discharge planned holds in Krishnapatnam Port should have their booby hatches locked and sealed prior ships arrival to port.
- The vessel Chief officer or responsible officer should check the gas atmosphere of Cargo hold/booby hatch in presence of shore supervisor prior
entry of any shore personnel. Entry to be allowed only if )2 is 20.9 % and NIL Hydrocarbon and toxic gases. - Booby hatches kept for entry shall have nose drop locking pins for safe entry to the holds.
- Gas free certificate to shore stevedores to be given for safe entry.
- Every 06 hrs Gas reading to be taken for entrance to booby hatches and any deviation or unsafe reading noted the entrance to restricted for work man entry and informed to port control on VHF.
- The vessel should take all necessary precautions and follow procedures to ensure safety of shore personnel onboard ship. In event of any incident
involving shore personnel , the ship officer should immediately inform the Jetty supervisor. Noncompliance of above procedures will be taken seriously, and necessary action shall be taken against the vessel.
