MACN released a very informative video regarding corruption at sea. Titled ”The cost of corruption at sea”, the video depicts examples of maritime corruption.
In one example, MANC informs that port authorities threatened to delay the ship, and fine it 60,000$, for an error in the ship’s fuel declaration. However, then they asked for 7,000$ to help the ship have no problem.
Moreover, an other port authority claimed to find cockroached onboard, and asked for 10 carton of cigarettes to make them go away.
Finally, a third port authority claimed that the visas and yellow fever vaccine certificates are not according to the rules, threatening with a fine of 10,000$. Then they asked for 1,000$ to help the ship have no problem.
