International climate leader Christiana Figueres, recognized as the architect of the Paris Climate Agreement, delivers the 2019 Peter M. Wege Lecture on Sustainability, addressing efforts to stem the increase in global temperature.
Talking about climate change, Ms. Figueres noted that we should focus on how we can move faster in order to protect our climate, instead of asking if we are moving in the right direction.
This era’s generations have the responsibility to take action and understand that their actions could affect the lives on Earth for at least 100 years, she added.
However, the younger generations will be the first to feel the full impact of climate change. For this reason, a better and wider cooperation is vital to reverse this situation.
In fact, she explained that we are currently in a cross-road where our actions will determine if we will improve future lives, or if we will make future living conditions worse.
However, Christiana Figueres noted that the younger generations seem to have waken up and are taking action in order to hold those responsible for the deterioration of the planet to account.
