PSA Norway informed that it has given Vår Energi consent to use the Scarabeo 8 mobile drilling facility for activities on the Marulk field. The well was built at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Palermo, Italy and completed at Westcon’s yard in Ølensvåg in Rogaland county in 2011.
The well will be drilled by Scarabeo 8, which is a semi-submersible drilling facility of the Moss CS 50 MkII design. It is a subsea gas field 25 kilometers southwest of the Norne field.

It was discovered in 1992 and its Plan for development and operation (PDO) received approval in 2010. It has a subsea template tied into the Norne installation (FPSO), and its production started in 2012.
Vår Energi operates the Marulk field, having 20% ownership interests, while Equinor with 50% and Ineos with 30% are partners.
