The US Coast Guard informed that it is currently responding to a report of a sunken towing vessel at mile marker 832 of Everett Lake near Dyersburg, Tennessee, on Tuesday, March 6.
Watchstanders at US Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River received a report, informing them that the motor vessel “Ms Nancy C”, owned by Choctaw Transportation Company, was in the process of building a tow at a fleeting area when it started taking on water.
While attempting to empty the water off the vessel, the two people aboard left to bring another dewatering pump. When they returned, the stern of the vessel had already sunk.
About 3000 gallons of diesel is estimated to be on board, and boom has been deployed to contain release of oil.
The cause of the incident is unknown, and an investigation was launched for this matter.
