The International Transport Worker's Federation (ITF) expressed its concerns on the sabotage act that took place in UAE waters, on Sunday, May 12. Thus, ITF unions have planned a meeting in Genoa, Italy to discuss this matter that arose, and see how it affects seafarers.

As Reuters reports, London's marine insurance market plans to meet on Thursday to discuss whether it is necessary to change the risk level for vessels in the Gulf after an attack on ships off the United Arab Emirates earlier this week. Yet, this move will increase insurance premiums.

The United Arab Emirates announced that they will be restrained on who might be behind the attacks on oil tankers off its coast, and promised to de-escalate the difficult situation the Iranian behaviour has caused in the region, as a senior official commented.

Itai Sela, Naval Dome CEO, being a former senior officer in the military, commented on the attacks that took place in UAE's territorial waters, near the bunkering port of Fujairah. The attack concerns four vessels that were sabotaged in the Gulf of Oman, on May 12.

In light of the sabotage incident against four commercial vessels, off United Arab Emirates territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, sources revealed that the two sabotaged vessels were identified as the Saudi oil tankers Al-Marzoqah and Amjad. In the meantime, the other two vessels were the Norwegian tanker Andrea Victory, and a UAE bunkering barge, the A Michel.

UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) announced that four commercial vessels were subjected to sabotage, close to United Arab Emirates territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, on Sunday, May 12. The incident occurred east of Fujairah, one of the world’s largest bunkering hubs situated outside the Strait of Hormuz.

More than a dozen of seafarers were rescued, after a fire erupted onboard an oil tanker in Khalid Port, UAE, in the morning hours of Wednesday. The ship was reportedly carrying thousands of tonnes of diesel at the time.

The United Arab Emirates has released a Qatari naval vessel and four sailors who were on board the ship and held for about a week. This comes during a boycott of Doha by the federation and three more Arab nations. Qatar claimed that that the boat was carrying out routine operations in Qatari territorial waters when it suffered a 'technical fault.'

Standard Club released a statement according to which direct trade between Qatar and seven states, also known as 'restricted states', Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and the Maldives remains restricted or prohibited.
