Celebrity Cruises' newest ship 'Celebrity Edge' was named by the Pakistani activist and youngest Nobel Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai, in a ceremony held Tuesday in Florida. Celebrity Edge is the company's first new ship in six years and first new ship series in more than a decade. The ship's highlight is that it has set a landmark with the major involvement of women in its development and manning.

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä launched a lifeboat for buildings, as a product 'that should never see the light of day', in a bid to highlight the potential adverse effects of climate change in the world. The lifeboat for buildings is not a real product, even though it could be, as it could be used in severe flooding and rising sea levels caused by climate change.

Denmark’s most modern container port will be completed by the end of 2021 and it will be a sustainable and automated container terminal in Copenhagen. The area in Outer Northern Harbour is fairly anonymous, however, the current works remind that this is where the container terminal will be in three years from now.

British oil major Shell revealed plans to set short-term targets as part of a long-term ambition to reduce the Net Carbon Footprint of its energy products. The plans were announced in a joint statement developed with institutional investors on behalf of Climate Action 100+, an initiative led by investors with more than $32 trillion in assets under management.

The IMO announced the launch of a collaboration with the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Development Programme, aiming to address the negative environmental impacts of the transfer of aquatic species through ships. The GloFouling Partnerships project is expected to drive actions to implement the IMO Guidelines for the control and management of ships’ biofouling.

A network of filling points for sustainable fuels and other energy carriers will be created.

A sperm whale was found dead in Indonesia having 115 plastic cups and 25 plastic bags in its stomach. This unfortunate incident raised concerns amongst environmentalists, focusing on the country's major garbage problem. Indonesia is the world's second biggest contributor to marine debris, following China.
