Tallin VTS joined the Sea Traffic Management, which aims to improve traffic safety and provide vessel traffic services to know vessels’ intentions and sailing plans. The Estonian centre is the first shore centre outside EU-funded projects. Tallinn also has a system for the STM functions installed by Wärtsilä.

The STM Validation Project will launch a new service aiming to reduce crew workload and min the risks of accidents and misunderstanding. The service will send navigational warnings directly to ECDIS via digital communication, shown directly in the on-board ECDIS and deleted when no longer valid.

The Port of Rotterdam will use a new digital technology will help ships arriving to the Port, in their port planning. This technology aims to assist vessels adjust speed as the actors exchange planned arrival time automatically. Namely, Sea Traffic Management, STM, and Port of Rotterdam have established electronic exchange of arrival times between ships and port.

The early results from STM projects indicate that e-navigation is the way forward. HELCOM is looking forward to seeing more results and concrete implementation in the Baltic, where almost 7% of the world’s total goods volume is transported.

The successful operation of a port requires its independent parties to share data to ensure efficient episodic tight coupling, according to the EU-funded STM Validation in a publication explaining the concept of Port Collaborative Decision Making. The main objective of PortCDM is to enhance coordination among port call actors.

The team behind the Maritime Cloud has decided to change the name of the communication framework to 'Maritime Connectivity Platform', to provide clarity and support e-Navigation going from testbed to real life implementation.

STM Validation informed that the Vessel Traffic Service Tarifa, one of the first shore centres updated to be fully compatible with Sea Traffic Management, is ready to send and receive voyage plans in Gibraltar strait.
