USCG: PSC detentions decrease in 2017

The USCG released the US Port State Control Annual Report for 2017, revealing an annual detention rate of 0.99%, the lowest ever in the US. However, the report showed a rise in detentions related to fire fighting, for the fourth straight year. Similarly, MARPOL Annex I deficiencies, which had been on the decline over the past several years, rose slightly in 2017.

AMSA revokes livestock carrier's certificate due to multiple deficiencies

AMSA said it has revoked MV Al Messilah’s Australian Certificate for the Carriage of Livestock (ACCL) after finding a number of deficiencies during a pre-load and port state control inspection. The vessel has not been banned or refused access to Australian ports, nor has it been detained, AMSA clarified, awaiting confirmation from the vessel operator about how they intend to rectify the deficiencies.
