ITF Seafarers’ Trust launches new OSH training program

ITF Seafarers’ Trust launched a new three stage occupational safety and health education program for port workers in Aqaba, Jordan. Specifically, this program features an app based awareness raising component followed by face-to-face training and work place assignments- and is designed to increase worker participation in the OSH agenda, complementing company initiatives where they exist creating a safer environment for both dockers and seafarers visiting the ports.

During the first SAFETY4SEA Forum in Manila, Mailyn Borillo, President, OSM, discussed the human element, sharing best practices beyond compliance, further underlining that life skills improve seafarer’s wellbeing, yet are the most neglected part of employees’ development. The main challenges of seafarers are challenges on family relationships; mental and physical sickness and further financial burdens, she stressed.

USCG rescues 3 from sinking tugboat off Andros Island, Bahamas

On Thursday, January 9, the USCG rescued three crewmembers from the sinking 62-foot tugboat, Gulf Man, approximately 6 miles northeast of Andros Island, in the Bahamas. In fact, the tugboat was taking on water when a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene and hoisted all three crewmembers and then transported them to Nassau, Bahamas; no injuries were reported.
