High Transport Efficiency and Environmental Compatibility Recognized TØNSBERG, the world's largest roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) ship*, built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has been awarded the "Ship of the Year 2011" by the Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers (JASNAOE). Every year JASNAOE selects what it considers to be the most technologically, artistically and socially superior ships and marine structures built that year, and the TØNSBERG was chosen for its highly evaluated transport efficiency and environmental compatibility. Rescue operation ends up successfully Almost 400 passengers and crew of a Roll on-roll off (Roro) vessel owned by George and Peter Lines were stranded off coast of Cebu and Negros Island on Tuesday.M/V Georich navigated by captain Crisologo Carollo was rescued by its sister Roro vessel M/V Zamboanga Ferry around 3 a.m. and tagged the stranded vessel back to Dumaguete Port.All passengers and crews arrived safely at the Dumaguete pier around 7 a.m.Carollo said the ship bound for Cebu City left the Dumaguete port around 11 p.m. But upon reaching the seas of Alcoy, Cebu, one of the ship's engines automatically went off followed by other engine prompting him to call for rescue.Dumaguete population officer Laome Quijote said she will claim damages for the delayed caused by the vessel's failure to deliver its passengers to the port of destination.She blamed the ship captain and management for allowing the vessel to serve passengers despite of its engine condition.The ship captain said he respects the rights and opinion of the passengers and he understood their feelings.But he clarified that the ship's engines were all in good condition when they left Dumaguete port.A bus owned by Vallacar Transit was also hired to ...

"Installing Hamworthy Krystallon scrubber unit is a major step in preparing our fleet for the regulatory compliance," says Thamba Rajeevan project manager at Wilh Wilhelmsen ASA."When new, stricter emissions regulations come into force in 2015, our experience with this technology will be a valuable tool for taking the right decisions for the rest of our fleet. Multi-purpose service to St. Petersburg kicked off this week Atlantic Ro-Ro Carriers launched a general cargo service between the Port of Tampa and the Port of St. Petersburg..The service kicked off this week with a call at Tampa by the Baltic Merkur, which was loaded at the Ports America terminal with containers, heavy equipment work vehicles and freight trucks.The new monthly service uses a fleet of multi-purpose vessels that can carry a variety of general cargoes such as steel, containers, roll-on/roll-off traffic, project cargoes and bulk commodities. There were no casualties reported in the crash, but it caused panic A ferry running between İstanbul's Yenikapı port and Güzelyalı, Bursa, collided with a ro-ro ship in the Sea of Marmara on Monday, narrowly avoiding capsizing.The Osmangazi ferry, which was carrying 830 passengers and 150 vehicles, collided with the ro-ro ship off Sivriada early on Monday. There were no casualties reported in the crash, but it caused panic among the passengers.The ferry returned to Yenikapı after the crash, where the passengers were evacuated from the ferry. MOL and Cargotec committe to clean seas A Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) car carrier has become the first to have all of its ro-ro equipment electrically driven.The 4,000 unit car carriers Iris Ace, built by Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding, features an electrically-driven MacGregor stern quarter ramp/door, side ramps and two movable ramps from Cargotec. With the equipment be all electric it eliminates the need for hydraulic oil in the operating system."Shin-Kurushima, MOL and Cargotec are all committed to clean seas," said Magnus Sjöberg, sales director for ro-ro ships at Cargotec. "The cooperation between the companies has resulted in these exceptionally efficient, environmentally-friendly vessels. Due to damage of the propeller tunnel of the vessel A British cargo ship is leaking hydraulic oil into the sea at Helsinki's Vuosaari port. Efforts are underway to contain the leak from the M/S Longstone, which is due to damage to the vessel's propeller tunnel.Local emergency officials have been installing oil containment booms around the vessel since Monday evening. The procedure is to be completed on Tuesday morning.The ship, which is nearly 200 metres long, is leaking oil at a rate of 100-150 litres a day, creating a one-millimetre thick oil slick. The leak cannot be stopped while the vessel is in the water.Maritime authorities are to decide on Tuesday whether the Longstone will be allowed to continue on its journey or whether it must be put into dry dock in Finland.The London-based ship was built in Germany in 2003.
