ITF and Saudi Arabia embrace seafarers through collaboration

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attempted to partner in order to support and boost seafarers in all of the Saudi Arabia ports. This close relationship has already provided both parties with fruitful results with the successful repatriation of 5 seafarers with their entitled wages from the vessel MKN 205 in Damman port has already been produced.

The Mission to Seafarers calls those working at sea to complete the anonymous Seafarer Happiness Index survey, in order to have their say about life on board. The survey will help the industry better understand what needs to be changed. The survey will share the results with the industry, so they know what they are doing well and what needs to be improved.

Obesity, mental health problems and gender discrimination increase onboard

The Mission to Seafarers, International seafarer welfare charity, addressed that reports of obesity, mental health problems and gender discrimination are rapidly increasing, while wellness at sea keeps on falling. Ben Bailey, Director of Advocacy and Regional Engagement, will present the latest findings from Seafarers Happiness Index at CMA Shipping Conference in April.

The Mission to Seafarers opens seafarer welfare centre in Port Talbot

The Mission to Seafarers revealed a new centre for seafarers in Port Talbot, to increase its welfare service provision for seafarers calling at the port. The new centre received a £35,000 grant from the Merchant Navy Welfare Board, and aims to offer respite care to seafarers who visit the port each year. The centre will be providing a place to relax, socialise, and connect with friends and family.
