ReCAAP ISC informs that a total of 25 incidents of armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia during January-March 2023. This accounts for a 9% increase in the total number of incidents during the same period in 2022.

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), published a statement this week to inform that the ship that had been under a pirate attack in Gulf of Guinea, Success 9, was located on April 15th and the crew is safe.

The ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) has released the first quarterly report on piracy in 2023, which has recorded the lowest level of reported global piracy and armed robbery incidents since 1993.

Two incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (one CAT 3 incident and one CAT 4 incident) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 11 – 17 April.

According to Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade, Gulf of Guinea (MDAT-GoG), pirates boarded the chemical/product tanker Success 9 on Monday, 300 off the of Ivory Coast.

One CAT 4 incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia was reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 4 - 10 Apr.

The French Navy has located the Danish product tanker, Monjasa Refomer, that pirates boarded and hijacked, kidnapping six crew members in the Gulf of Guinea last weekend.

Five incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (two CAT 3 and three CAT 4 incidents) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 28 March – 3 April 2023.

ReCAAP ISC informed that four incidents were reported on board ships while underway in the eastbound lane of the Singapore Strait, from 27 – 31 March 2023.

The Monjasa tanker, which was hijacked by pirates six days ago, was found and secured yesterday off Sao Tome and Principe, but some crewmates have been kidnapped.
