DNV has officially joined the International Windship Association (IWSA) with the intention of using the membership status to further support and accelerate the uptake of wind-assisted propulsion systems by the global shipping fleet.

RINA has officially joined the International Windship Association (IWSA), in order to actively participate in the development and visualisation of the capabilities of wind, and wind-assisted propulsion.

The latest installations of wind propulsion technology on large commercial vessels have tipped the amount of cargo that can be transported on vessels that make use of wind as a renewable energy source over the one million tonnes of deadweight (DWT) milestone, said the International Windship Association (IWSA).

After energy providers, shipping companies and NGOs called the EU to introduce a minimum quota of 6% sustainable and scalable hydrogen fuels by 2030, Gavin Allwright, Secretary at International Windship Association, added that "all zero-emissions energy provision to vessels need to be treated equally."

Τhe International Windship Association (IWSA) has issued a call for the greater inclusion of wind-assisted propulsion technology in regulatory frameworks and for a level playing field for all energy sources, inclusive of wind, in international and regional policies and subsidies.

During the 2022 GREEN4SEA Forum, Gavin Allwright, Secretary General, International Windship Association (IWSA), talked about the application of wind power in the shipping industry, presenting market forecasts and the pipelines status towards industry’s journey to decarbonization.

The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD)  announced the onboarding of three new partners: the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), the International Windship Association (IWSA) and Kpler.

After the Wind Propulsion Forum at the One Ocean Summit, the International Windship Association Secretary General, Gavin Allwright delivered a number of recommendations and a call for action for policy makers. 

IMO has formally confirmed that the International Windship Association (IWSA) has been granted full consultative status at the regulatory body.
