A new requirement for the carriage of two-way portable radiotelephone apparatus of explosion proof or intrinsically safe type for firefighter’s communication is effective from July 1st, 2018 according to SOLAS regulation II-2/10.10.4 The purpose of these fire-fighter radios is to provide a dedicated means of communication between a team of fire fighters entering the space, and the crew member located outside the space who is assigned to control this team.

The video depicts the German frigate 'Sachsen' suffering a missile explosion last week, during a training exercise off Norway, which resulted in minor injury of two crew members. 'FGS Sachsen' was operating with 'FGS Lübeck' near the Arctic Circle when it attempted to fire a Standard Missile 2 Block IIIA as part of the exercise.

During a salvage operation, an 18-member team noticed a crack on the upper deck of the container ship 'SSL Kolkata' that had caught fire on June 13, while underway off Sandheads, Bay of Bengal. This discovery changed the plans of the team as they decided to empty the ship of the containers and the fuel before towing it to a port.

After more than three days of trying to put out the fire the broke out on a bulker at Port Kembla, firefighters managed to extinguish it. Crews used high expansion foam into the cargo hold, a strategy that proved successful. As Fire and Rescue New South Wales informed, there are no signs of smoke from the ship and field temperature levels are dropping.

A second crude oil tank was set on fire Sunday at the Libyan port of Ras Lanuf, during fighting between rival factions for control of two key export terminals. As a result, storage capacity at Ras Lanuf has been cut by 400,000 barrels, according to Libya’s National Oil Corporation.

ATSB announced it has started an investigation on the fire that occurred onboard the bulk carrier 'Iron Chieftain' at Port Kembla, on 18 June. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will notify those affected and seek safety action to address the issue.

Indian authorities have managed to drop an anchor from the  ill-fated general cargo vessel 'SSL Kolkata', which had been on fire in the last two days and abandoned by its 22 crew members on 14 June, off the Sagar Island at the mouth of the Ganges Delta.

Large fire was reported onboard a bulk carrier, at the Port of Kempla, Australia. To tackle the fire on the bulk carrier "Iron Chieftain's," cargo hold, Over 100 firefighters were deployed, while booms are in place as a precaution. No fuel leak or injuries were reported, and the ships structure is sound.

The US Coast Guard rescued six people from a 41-foot pleasure craft after fire broke out on the boat near Great Egg Inlet, New Jersey, on Sunday, June 17. All six were removed from the vessel and transported to Seaview Marina in Ocean City. TowBoatUS personnel put out the fire and towed the boat to C-Jam Marina in Somers Point.

A total of 22 crewmen were evacuated from the general cargo vessel 'SSL Kolkata', after the vessel suffered an explosion to one of its containers and a subsequent fire, while underway off Sandheads, Bay of Bengal, in the early hours of Thursday. There were no reports of oil pollution.
