The video depicts the time when the German frigate ‘Sachsen’ suffered a missile explosion last week, during a training exercise off the coast of Norway, which resulted in minor injury of two crew members.
‘FGS Sachsen’ was operating with ‘FGS Lübeck’ near the Arctic Circle when it attempted to fire a Standard Missile (SM) 2 Block IIIA as part of the exercise.
Photos released in local media show the damage extent on the ship: The explosion reportedly scorched the paint of the frigate’s bridge and the vertical launch cells battery.
After a port call in Norway, both frigates returned to their homeport of Wilhelmshaven, on the North Sea on Tuesday, where the ship will be repaired.
The incident is under investigation.
