The Government of Finland issued a resolution on the digitalisation of freight transport data, to boost the logistics sector and promote new business opportunities. The new resolution aims to make Finland a hub for international transport and supports emission reduction targets in the transport sector. For this reason, Finland started an open logistics digitalisation network in the autumn.

Arctia’s LNG-fueled icebreaker 'Polaris' departed the icebreaker base in Helsinki on 30 January 2018, as the Finnish icebreaking season’s third icebreaker. The vessel will first head to Pori Tahkoluoto to refuel LNG and then to provide maritime transport to the Bothnian Bay in the Baltic Sea. 

Coral EnergICE, the first Ice Class 1A Super LNG carrier owned by Anthony Veder and operated by Skangas, was named on 25 January at the Port of Turku, Finland. The ship is designed to operate in the Baltic Sea, with its hull reinforced to break through one-meter thick ice.

The new Research & Development Centre for Autonomous Ships includes a Remote and Autonomous Experience Space aimed at showcasing the autonomous ship technologies Rolls-Royce has already introduced, as well as those in the development stage.

The ceremony will take place on January 25, at the Port of Turku, in Finland. The ship will be named 'Coral EnergICE' and it is planned to start shipping LNG to Pori and Tornio terminals. The LNG tanker was constructed at the Neptun Werft shipyard in Germany.

In 2017 Helsinki became the busiest passenger port in Europe and possibly the world, carrying  12.3 million passengers. Passenger numbers continued to increase on the Helsinki-Tallinn route in particular, reflecting the development of Helsinki and Tallinn into 'twin cities'.

Finnish cargo handling company Cargotec has set sustainability targets for 2018, focusing on increasing safety awareness, setting a new sustainability standard for the supply chain, as well as increasing the usage of renewable electricity.

Two people died after the pilot boat 'L242' capsized and sank on Friday, while on its way to pick up a pilot from 'Stern Nordic' tanker, off Porvoo, in the Gulf of Finland. Divers found the bodies of the two men inside the boat's interior compartments, shortly after midnight.

The discount is available to those who implement measures that reduce vessels’ environmental impacts, such as lowered air emissions, noise reduction while in the harbour, or other investments that improve environmental efficiency.
