Ingeteam, who's responsible for the electrical engineering, completed the commissioning of the first multi-turbine wind floating platform at its final location in the Atlantic Ocean. The WIP10 + prototype is 1.3 nautical miles off the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, specifically on the PLOCAN test bench, in front of the Punta de la Garita.

During his speech at Nor-Shipping 2019, IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim delivered a strong reminder regarding the ever-increasing importance of balanced and sustainable development. Mr. Lim also highlighted moves to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the shipping industry.

Wärtsilä presented the Wärtsilä HY for Dredger, a new product based on Wärtsilä’s HY hybrid propulsion technology. Its goal is to improve the efficiency and sustainability of dredging operations. The new technology is able to optimise performance throughout the vessel's lifecycle. 

Foreship published an infographic focusing on how to accomplish a 25% energy savings, coming from hull and propulsion, HVAC, thermal energy utilization, hotel and electrical and alternative energy resources.

The 74th session of the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 74) took place on 13-17 May at IMO headquarters in London, with key environmental subjects on its agenda, aimed at supporting the IMO strategy on reduction of GHG emissions from ships and the implementation of 2020 sulphur cap among others.

Kongsberg Maritime is part of a new collaboration scheme, along with DOF, SINTEF Ocean and NORCE, aiming to decrease fuel consumption and GHG emissions for complex offshore operations, while also streamlining fleet-wide maintenance.

Wärtsilä and Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT, a Finnish public university, signed a research agreement on strategic power system modelling aiming to understand and develop ways towards 100% renewable energy systems. The agreement was signed in March.

During the 74th session of its Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 74), concluded Friday, IMO agreed stricter energy efficiency targets for certain types of ships, as part of its efforts to reduce shipping emissions. 

DNV GL published the 'Digitalization and the future of energy' report, focusing on what's the meaning of digitalization, how it affects the energy sector and where can it add most value for society and individual organisations.
