Harvey Gulf International Marine has chosen the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to class two Offshore Supply Vessels (OSV) being retrofitted with a dual fuel as well as battery system. The Harvey Energy will become the first US-flagged OSV equipped with a battery/converter system.

The world’s biggest semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) is set to enter into service in the coming months for Heerema Marine Contractors, for offshore oil, gas and renewable energy installation and decommissioning jobs. This is also the world's first dual-fuel crane vessel.

The maritime industry’s response to the call for tighter environmental regulations combined with the 2020 sulphur cap is steadily driving the industry towards dual fuel solutions, said marine technology company WinGD, announcing its financial results for the first quarter of 2019.

On Thursday April 12 the christening and launch of the 8,000 deadweight, dual fueled cement carrier M/V Shetland took place. Shetland is a sister vessel of the M/V Ireland and M/V Greenland. Several new initiatives were implemented during the construction process to further enhance quality. After the official handover the vessel will be managed by the MF Shipping Group.

Philly Shipyard (PSI), a unit of Philly Shipyard ASA, delivered the second dual-fuel Aloha Class containership, 'Kaimana Hila', to Matson Navigation Company. The vessel is the second of two 3.600 TEU Aloha Class containerships that were ordered by Matson.

Hapag-Lloyd ordered the world’s first mega-container vessel, MV SAJIR, retrofit to LNG from MAN Energy Solutions. The pilot project will include the conversion of the current HFO-burning engine to a dual-fuel prime mover capable of running on HFO and LNG. The retrofit of MV SAJIR will be done at the Chinese Hudong/HRDD shipyard.

During the 2019 SMART4SEA Conference, Dr. Panos Theodossopoulos, CEO, Propulsion Analytics, presented, together with WinGD, a real time Engine Diagnostic System (EDS) available in all WinGD 2-stroke, diesel and dual fuel engines.

German container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd revealed plans to retrofit its 15,000 TEU boxship 'Sajir' to use LNG propulsion, in a pilot project expected to pave the way for converting large ships to LNG. The LNG conversion is expected to save 15-30% in CO2 emissions from the ship's operation. 

Spanish ferry operator Baleària announced construction of the world's first fast passenger and cargo ferry powered by dual-LNG engines, being built in the Armon de Gijón shipyard. With a length of 125 meters and a beam of 28 meters, the new catamaran will have capacity for 1,200 passengers and 500 cars, which also makes it 'the longest and highest-capacity fast ferry catamaran'.

In a world's first, Singapore-based BW LPG announced that it has signed contracts including future options for the delivery and retrofitting of four LPG-propelled dual-fuel engines in its fleet, as part of its efforts to prepare for the 2020 sulphur cap.
