Italy court rejects charges against German rescue captain

The Supreme Court of Cassation in Italy confirmed that the German captain of a migrant-rescue ship, should never have been arrested. Specifically, the Master of “MV Sea Watch 3”, Carola Rackete, was arrested on 29 June 2019 by Italian authorities for helping and abetting illegal immigration and for forcing her way into the port of Lampedusa.

Vietnamese master jailed for his involvement in Shell fuel heist

A Vietnamese captain was jailed for five and a half years for his involvement in stealing more than 8,000 tonnes of marine gas oil from a Shell refinery in Singapore over a two-year period. In fact, it is estimated that the master pocketed up to $90,000 from his involvement in shipping fuel, worth of $5.7m from Shell’s Pulau Bukom refinery, the company’s largest petrochemical production and export center in the Asia-Pacific region, on 10 occasions between 2016 and 2017.

Petition to release captain arrested in Mexico

The Secretary General of InterManager, Captain Kuba Szymanski, is calling everyone to sign a petition concerning the release of Captain Andrzej Lasota, who was arrested by Mexican authorities on Monday, August 5.  Captain Andrzej Lasota was arrested for allegedly being unaware of the ship carrying prohibited substances to Mexico, placing the lives and health of the country’s citizens at risk.

Danube collision: Captain is expected to face charges

As Reuters reports, Hungarian prosecutors are expected to charge the captain of the cruise ship that hit and sank the ‘Mermaid’ tourist vessel on the River Danube, which led to 28 people onboard losing their lives. German rescue captain Carola Rackete to sue Italy’s Matteo Salvini

Carola Rackete, the German Captain of a migrant rescue ship, will sue the Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini for defamation, as her lawyer informed, increasing the tensions between the charity worker and the Minister. Carola Rackete was freed from house arrest after a judge dismissed accusations that she had endangered the lives of Italian servicemen.

Sea Watch 3 captain free

According to sources, the 31-year-old captain of Sea Watch 3, Carola Rackete, has been released from custody. The German captain was arrested on Saturday, June 29, due to the fact that she docked the vessel in Lampedusa along with 42 migrants onboard, defying a stringent domestic law that has closed borders to migrants.
