Ahead of the European Council (Article 50), the European Commission has taken stock of the European Union’s intense ‘no-deal’ preparations and has issued practical guidance to Member States in 5 areas, including  citizens’ residence and social security entitlements, data protection, medicine and medical devices, police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters, and fisheries.

The UK customs system is not ready for Brexit and it could be three more years before it is, as Peter MacSwiney, chair of the Brexit committee at the Joint Customs Consultative Committee stated (JCCC). He highlighted the fact that preparations for Brexti are being slow. 

As InCyprus reported, Cyprus has an emergency plan in place, under the possibility that a hard Brexit might follow, even though it is being kept at low profile. Sources from the Deputy Ministry stated that the UK will be considered a third country in accordance with EU rules and regulations.

Short sea container services between the UK and EU could provide alternative capacity to alleviate possible congestion at the Port of Dover post-Brexit, according to a study by global shipping consultancy Drewry. These latest findings follow an earlier study by Drewry.

The Port of Rotterdam will stop the imports of livestock from the UK in April, as a key inspection point at the Port is not ready yet. As Mark Dijk, the port's manager of external affairs, informed they experience some problems, including livestock. Brexit is now scheduled for April 12, instead of the original deadline of March 29.

A ceremony took place today in Rota Naval Base, Cadiz, Spain, to mark the relocation of the operation Headquarters of EU NAVFOR Atalanta Operation. The relocation comes in view of Britain’s planned departure from the EU.

The port of Rotterdam Authority and the ferry terminals started providing truck drivers with information leaflets about Brexit, on March 19. The leaflets cover the formalities that must be in order when transporting freight to England.

On the night of 29 to 30 March 2019, the UK will leave the European Union. As such a development will lead to major changes, the Port of Rotterdam has made preparations to enable freight transport via the Port to run as smoothly as possible. For this transport to run smoothly, the Port said that cooperation is required from all parties in the logistics chain.

Volume growth is expected to continue for ports worldwide, but at a more modest pace over the next 10 years, said Fitch Ratings in a new report. An increase in protectionist trade policies, shifts in centers of production, and the advent of disruptive technologies are all factors which add complexity in future throughput.

MAN Energy Solutions, an UK-based marine engine firm, announced that it stockpiled key components worth £2.5m due to 'uncertainty' over Brexit. The company added that the move was made for 'risk mitigation' purposes.
