Stena Bulk signed a scrubber solution agreement with Chinese Bluesoul to retrofit its Suezmax and IMOIIMAX fleets. Stena Bulk will equip 15 vessels with scrubbers and have an additional 6 options for installation before 2020.
Stena Bulk chose to use scrubbers in order to comply with the upcoming 2020 regulation and be protected from price volatility as well as fuel shortage.
The company said that current market predictions are attractive in theory and in practice as well, despite a couple of parameters that are still uncertain.
However, the opportunities that are available take away some of the uncertainty, which ‘might be appealing when looking for a more secure investment’.
The scrubber that will be installed is an Open Loop Hybrid Ready with Water Cleaning, which removes the sulphur, as well as particles from the exhaust.
