Six crew members sustained injuries at sea during an explosion involving a gas tanker and a pilot boat. The incident took place five nautical miles off Pulau Sialu on December 14 2018.
The victims reported the incident to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

When the accident was reported, the MMEA deployed five personnel. When they arrived on the scene, they found that an explosion had happened on a pilot boat that was docked beside the gas tanker.
Due to the explosion, four crewmembers of the pilot boat and two from the tanker suffered burns. They were transported to the Batu Pahat Maritime Zone jetty and then to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital.
The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
