Almost half of the cargo consists of energy
The Port of Rotterdam is the largest gateway to Europe and one of world’s most important hubs for cargo flows. Almost half of that cargo consists of energy. Rotterdam Energy Port has grown enormously over the past five years due to the increasing demand. The installed capacity for power generation doubled in this period to 6500 mega watts. Clean energy sources (wind and solar energy) and energy-saving measures (CCS, waste heat & steam and captured CO2) are being used increasingly to reduce CO2 emissions. Rotterdam offers an open access infrastructure to allow companies to exchange products cost-effectively. Pipeline infrastructure is currently developed for the transportation of waste heat & steam and CO2.
