QatarEnergy has signed an agreement with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) for the construction of six additional QC-Max vessels, enhancing its fleet to a total of 128 LNG vessels.
These new vessels, each with a capacity of 271,000 cubic meters, will be built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard, a CSSC subsidiary, and are scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2031 .The addition of these six QC-Max vessels, alongside 18 recently ordered, brings QatarEnergy’s total to 24 QC-Max vessels, valued at approximately USD 8 billion.
According to QatarEnergy, these advanced ships are designed for superior fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and adherence to high safety and environmental standards.
The agreement was formalized at a ceremony in Shanghai, attended by key figures including QatarEnergy’s President and CEO, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, and senior representatives from CSSC and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.
Minister Al-Kaabi highlighted the strategic importance of this fleet expansion, emphasizing QatarEnergy’s commitment to leadership in the global LNG market and a practical energy transition.
