The video, produced by DNV GL, concerns the Norwegian Green Coastal Shipping Program, which aims to encourage the research and implementation of green technology concepts in the country’s shipping sector.
The video suggests that today’s visions, initiatives and political actions will create the reality of our future in 2050, in the same way that the past’s plans are realized today.
The program’s plans focus on improved air quality, global warming decrease, ship traffic without smoke, realization of the Paris Agreement’s goals, etc., informing that the technical equipment and knowledge already exists, to achieve these ambitious goals.
Most important is not the inventory of new solutions, research and development, but the removal of barriers that prevent existing solutions from being realized. For instance, the use of alternative fuels, which is expected to achieve a CO2 decrease, demands extensive changes that have to start now and cooperation all along the shipping industry.
