On March 2, the Singapore-flagged ferry ‘Wavemaster 5’ ran aground at Karang Galang reef, off the eastern coast of Batam, Indonesia. The ferry was voyaging from Tanjung Pinang, Indonesia to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, Singapore, when the incident occurred.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), all 50 passengers and seven crew members on board the ferry, which was making its way from Indonesia to Singapore, are safe.
In sight of the incident, the ferry operator called for another ferry, the ‘Wavemaster 6’, to safely transfer the passengers.
All the passengers are accounted for and the ferry is in stable condition.
There are no reports of injury or oil pollution.
MPA is investigating the incident.
