According to U.S. Coast Guard Southeast, U.S. Coast Guard Station Mayport responded to a vessel fire that occurred in the engine room of the Stuyvesant located near the entrance of the St. John’s River.
It is reported that a fire broke out aboard the dredging vessel Stuyvesant on 2 November and small boat crews responded to the scene assisting the efforts alongside the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department & Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
As a result of the fire, one Stuyvesant crew member was transported by Mayport’s crew to receive emergency medical help ashore. USCG is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
According to local media, it’s unclear how the fire started, but the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department said it began around 3 p.m. JFRD stated to local media that the vessel involved was near the Mayport Basin when the incident happened.
