A crane collapsed at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s Yangzi Xinfu yard, on June 10, falling into a bulk carrier which was under construction at the time. The accident caused extensive damages to the ship, while two workers were injured, one of whom died.
As local media report, as a bulk carrier was under construction at the yard, a crane collapsed onto it, leading to damages to the front starboard side of the vessel.
In addition, at the time two workers who were onboard the ship, were injured. One of the workers was taken to the hospital but died, while the other worker’s condition is stable.
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding provided a comment into the incident, saying that the crane collapsed due to overweight lifting operations.
Relevant authorities have now began investigations into the incident.
