The Oil & Gas UK (OGUK) along with Lloyd’s Register came together and discussed the emerge issue of how the shipping industries will achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions. Specifically, the Chief Executive of OGUK, Deirdre Michie and the LR’s Energy Director, David Clark shared their opinions in order to spread the “Roadmap 2035”.
Based on the “2019 Economic Report Roadmap 2035” which was published by OGUK earlier this year, both companies urge the need of the UK to move forward to Net Zero by 2050.
As Deirdre Michie highlighted, the UK is one of the first industrial sectors to respond constructively and positively in moving towards net zero, supporting the UK’s energy needs and demands.
Using the skills and the people that we already have, help us to move ourselves forward in that way.
…Deirdre Michie noted.
Moreover, Oil & Gas UK is making every effort to “learn the lessons” from the vision 2035 campaign and speak to the industry about what the issues are, in order to engage them with the net zero plan. Deirdre Michie further marked that the roadmap is incredibly important, since it shows that Oil & Gas UK has a major role and is being part of the zero emissions solution.
That will encourage people to think this is an industry that they want to be part of. We are looking to come up with solutions to face some of the biggest society’s challenges.
…Ms. Michie continued.
At the same time, LR’s Energy Director David Clark, informed that the Lloyd’s Register from its side, fully supports the work of the new low-carbon solution center, while finds new ways on how to provide capability for the project.
More broadly, Lloyd’s Register develops its innovative digital products and set its analytics, to continue build and develop that expertise out to the UK and to the global customers. Overall, moving towards to a net-zero future, will constitute a legally binding commitment to end the UK’s contribution to climate change.
