Nine people are confirmed dead and 28 are still missing, after a tour boat sank in Colombia’s Penol-Guatape reservoir, on Sunday, 25 June. The multi-decked vessel was carrying about 170 people, at the time of the incident.
When the boat started taking on water, other motorboats that were nearby at that time, went to the aid of passengers. According to Reuters, out of the people rescued, 99 persons were rescued immediately and about 40 got out on their own.
Just before the incident, survivors are reported to have listened a loud noise.
Some survivors told media that not all of the passengers had life-jackets. The causes of the accident are under investigation.
The reservoir is located about an hour from the central city of Medellin and is a popular tourist destination.
